The situation in Afghanistan

    It has always been one of the poorest countries of the world. Its no. 170 out of 174 of the UN statistics
    It has widely been destroyed by war and civil war; there have been armed hostilities for over 40 years
    Economy has collapsed, unemployment rate is up to 90 %
    Every 4th woman is a widow. 16 out of 100 children die before their 1st birthday. Average life expectancy is 43 years
    85% of the Afghan population are illiterate, almost all the intellectual elite having fled
    Public administration and government were not functioning for a long time
    Unsatisfactory public transport and communication (telephone, post)
    There is only limited public health care, medical personnel is scarce
